With more and more free platforms like Medium or Substack where you can publish your content and get paid, it’s understandable that this question comes up often.

Here’s my answer: Absolutely yes, starting a blog is still worth it. A blog never goes out of style because it’s your own space to publish content, build a community, and sell your products. Your blog will be an integral part of your online business, serving as your online presence.

While social media and writing platforms are subject to change, whether through algorithm updates or new rules, your blog remains your asset. The content is yours, and you control what gets published. Plus, a blog allows you to share much more than just articles—you can create a variety of content that serves your audience and your business.

And here’s how you can do it.

Everyone talks about choosing the right niche, and for good reason. Your niche, or as I like to call it, your “WHO,” is the foundation of a successful blog. It should reflect your passion and expertise while also attracting an audience that’s not only interested in your content but willing to engage with it and spend money.

Start by listing your hobbies, interests, challenges you’ve overcome, and areas of expertise. This will ensure that you enjoy what you’re writing about and can offer valuable content to your audience.

Consider the following questions:

  • What are you passionate about?
  • What topics do you know a lot about?
  • What do people often ask for your advice on?
  • What challenges have you overcome that you can help others with?

The most popular big niches are wealth, health and relationship.

Research Market Demand

Having some ideas is a great start. But once you have a few in mind, it’s essential to research their market demand. Use tools like Google Trends, Keyword Planner, and even ChatGPT to gauge how popular your potential niches are.

Look for niches with a growing or stable interest and avoid those that are declining.

Don’t fear competition. Instead, research other blogs in your chosen niche and analyze their strengths and weaknesses to find gaps in the market that you can fill.

High competition isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it indicates a demand for the content. However, it does mean you’ll need to work harder to stand out.

To set up your blog you need a hosting provider that stores your blog’s data and makes it accessible to visitors. Look for a reliable hosting provider that offers good uptime, speed, and customer support.

If you’re still unsure about your blog’s name, you can start your blog now and decide the “CHOOSE DOMAIN LATER” option.

You can also decide whether to uncheck the box for Private Registration. This option keeps your registration details hidden, such as your name, address, and phone number, which would otherwise be registered in a public database when you purchase a domain from any hosting company.

An absolute must-have—don’t skip this step from the very beginning. It will become your most valuable asset. Build an email list to stay connected with your audience.
